Kebab Project
Kebab Project is a collaborative art initiative that I've had the privilege of contributing to, founded by Turkish photographer Çağan "Tchane" Okuyan. My role in this project centers on creating a series of collages that capture the essence of kebab shops in Istanbul, Paris, and Berlin—spaces brimming with history, migration stories, and the spirit of everyday life.
This project seeks to uncover the untold narratives of kebab shops, not just as places to eat but as cultural landmarks. My collages visually represent the intricate layers of Turkish culture, incorporating old family photographs from weddings and gatherings to showcase our traditions, dances, and distinct cultural behaviors. I've also integrated elements from Ottoman-era paintings, symbolizing a historical moment when these regions began to blend cultures and traditions, marking a milestone in shared experiences.
Alongside photography and text, my collages act as a tribute to the hidden stories and the deep cultural significance that kebab culture holds in these vibrant cities, where past and present, migration and tradition intersect.
